Ideally you'd remove as much loose rust as possible. For light surface rust, a rust converter can be used to stabilise it before painting over. For heavily corroded metal, more thorough preparation will give a better long-term result. Ask us about the best approach for your situation.
Corrugated iron roofs need a good rust-inhibiting primer first, followed by a quality acrylic roof paint or an oil-based enamel. Surface preparation — removing loose rust and cleaning off dirt — is critical. Come in and we'll walk you through the full system.
An etch primer chemically bonds to bare metal, providing superior adhesion and corrosion resistance. A standard primer relies on mechanical adhesion and may not perform as well on metal. For any bare or lightly rusted metal surface, an etch primer is the right first step.
